The new assistant is well-written, and perfectly well-acted, but he's too much of a young Mr Rose - they didn't really need two upper-class leads.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5833699981210036110.post-57875700622552673022020-03-23T10:14:35.640-07:002020-03-23T10:14:35.640-07:00If you can get it very cheap, try it - otherwise, ...If you can get it very cheap, try it - otherwise, I'm not sure it's worth it. The five episodes all feel like they're from completely different shows. One is a very good Mr Rose episode (I loved the resolution), two are very good stories that are a bit too hard-edged for this show, one is dull, and the last one was so student-amateur-agitprop I gave up after Act One (although there's a good idea in there somewhere - and it might work as a satire).

The cast change doesn't help. Agreed....Gillian Lewis leaving was a bit of a blow

Agreed.

I watched Its Dark Outside a few years ago - I've never seen Odd Man Out, which I believe is mostly wiped - and although they changed the character a bit, this show suits him much, much better.

I wasn't terribly impressed by It's Dark Outside.

I haven't caught up with the third season of Mr Rose yet. I just noticed with some surprise that it's actually obtainable, and at a reasonable price. I suppose I should grab it.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5833699981210036110.post-72209875504276749142020-03-21T11:48:25.872-07:002020-03-21T11:48:25.872-07:00Gillian Lewis leaving was a bit of a blow (althoug...Gillian Lewis leaving was a bit of a blow (although she turns up in J G Reeder, thankfully) - but the 'case of the revolving secretaries' was a good idea. It became fun to try to guess what would go wrong with the next one!

It's classic second season - some things are changed to make it more 'interesting' and other things stay the same. I didn't mind the move to London too much - there are only so many country house murder stories you can do. There's a bit more playing-to-the-crowd in this season - John Francis is clearly trying to be/spoofing John Steed in parts of The Unlucky Dip, and there's even a Callan joke in The Golden Frame.

The shorter season helped IMO - I'd agree that The Dead Commercial is the weak link, but all the others are brilliant.

I watched Its Dark Outside a few years ago - I've never seen Odd Man Out, which I believe is mostly wiped - and although they changed the character a bit, this show suits him much, much better.

Time to start on season three (only five episodes, apparently) - I know they made more changes, some of which were heavily implied in The Heralds Of Death.tom j joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13108887693320361796noreply@blogger.com
