And I was 13.

Still, it might be fun to revisit and see the things they get right, as you mention.Benzadmiralhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16762681617545684805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5833699981210036110.post-42968953818182692252014-02-11T12:52:36.080-08:002014-02-11T12:52:36.080-08:00It's not too far a stretch to see how this ser...It's not too far a stretch to see how this series lead to "Voyagers" where to time travelers jump about in time, setting things right...and to Quantum Leap, where the main character jumps about in time, setting things right.Kirk G - The Thrifty Rocketeerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15787549409999764040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5833699981210036110.post-87431630629347941702014-01-31T05:08:46.389-08:002014-01-31T05:08:46.389-08:00One impulsive action hero type and one cool-headed...One impulsive action hero type and one cool-headed rational scientist type would have made a more effective combination.

I would have to argue that that's exactly what they've got. Tony, younger and much more impulsive, is the more action-orientated one. This is helped in part by James Darren's performance (which risks knocking the scenery over more than once due to his enthusiasm!). Doug, on the other hand, is far more restrained and sensible, aided by a performance by Robert Colbert that's practically wooden in comparison to Darren. Doug is so laid back and stolid that he rarely even cracks a smile.

The Time Tunnel is an old favourite of mine, and certainly my favourite Irwin Allen series. I watched it a couple of years back, and had great fun taking the mick slightly on LJ as I did so. It's very entertaining once it gets going (the first few episodes are not the best), but I did find it terribly frustrating at the same time. The constant referrals back to the dull headquarters, just when things are getting exciting with Doug and Tony, is absolutely infuriating, and only gets more so as the series progresses. All the same, there are some very good episodes. "The Walls Of Jericho" is of such a high standard that it almost seems from a completely different series, and "Billy The Kid" and "Pirates Of Deadman's Island" are both gloriously entertaining tales, the former an old-fashioned Western, and the latter a swashbuckler shot through with clips from old films. All in all, it's a good, if flawed, show. I wish there had been a second season!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5833699981210036110.post-149147690610307652014-01-26T15:00:33.451-08:002014-01-26T15:00:33.451-08:00I agree. Despite its flaws, I still watch it whenever I can find it (usually as a two episode mashup these days).Randall Landershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10459066894752870249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5833699981210036110.post-54592461522347580462014-01-26T10:09:22.515-08:002014-01-26T10:09:22.515-08:00I loved that show, flaws and all.
